Description: The project included the creation/enhancement of 200 acres of naturally functioning wetlands and the restoration of approximately 450 acres of native prairie. Montgomery & Associates provided design support and project plans for the construction of the mitigation site. In providing support and project plans the engineering firm determined locations and depths of excavation to create the proposed wetlands.
The construction plan included berms, weirs and low flow channels to control and dissipate water in order to create and maintain wetland and upland areas. The design also provided possible detention for the surrounding area and plans for the construction of an entrance road, including a tie in at Morgan Road and appropriate gating requirements.
The construction plans included upgrading the existing road network to provide access for construction activities and long-term maintenance. Design parameters included the installation of berms and weir structures to maintain the natural setting of the area, design the roads to allow for future park development and public access, and protect existing natural resources present on the site.
The project included a watershed and drainage analysis of the project site and surrounding properties. This drainage and watershed analysis provided the drainage areas and calculated run-off. A water budget was calculated for the mitigation area to aid in berm location/specifications, and Montgomery & Associates evaluated impacts to surrounding drainage upstream and downstream of the project site.
Construction Cost: $ 1.2 Million
